Dunlop

A company that began as a tire manufacturer, but has developed its name in the sports industry and attracts some of the biggest players and tournaments on the tour. It all started with the commercial production of tires in 1889. Dunlop entered into the sports market in 1909. After that the company started developing tennis balls in 1923 and then in 1932 launched its most successful and revolutionary racquet, the Maxply tennis racquet; a racquet which was used by Rod Laver and that embarked numerous records in its era.

  • In 1956, Lew Hoad reached all four Grand Slam finals winning the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon but lost the US Open. Otherwise, he would have been the first player to win all four Grand Slams in a calendar year

  • Rod Laver won all four Grand Slam titles in 1962

  • Rod Laver did it again; winning all four Grand Slams in 1969

  • John McEnroe beat Bjorn Borg in a dream 1981 Wimbledon final. Borg was 5-time defending champion and had beaten McEnroe in the 1980’s Wimbledon final

  • Steffi Graf won the Golden Slam (all four Grand Slams and Olympic Gold Medal) in 1988

  • Thomas Johansson won the Australian Open in 2002

  • Amelie Mauresmo won Wimbledon in 2006

  • Kevin Anderson reached a career-best ranking of 5 with Dunlop racquets in 2018. He did so by reaching the US Open 2017 and Wimbledon 2018 finals
