Gamma Tennis Strings
Sometimes to really know what a company is good at producing, looking at their roots is a useful exercise. In the case of Gamma, the very beginnings of the company are in producing replacement strings for tennis racquets. This explains why today, the company makes so many different strings for tennis. With their research efforts right there at the company headquarters, you cannot help but be impressed with the depth and breadth of understanding strings.
For some players, strings are an unending source of debate, controversy and experimentation. Gamma must always be considered part of the discussion due to its history and current market position.
String Options
- Synthetic gut: normally a best value material, syn gut is the choice for most players upto advanced intermediates. Gamma makes several.
- Multifilament: Gamma makes a number of combinations of single and multiple core strings. These cores are wrapped by an array of different numbers of strands in different shapes. These special strings are often described as being made to protect the elbow. These high tech strings can be manufactured to mimic the playing characteristics of natural gut or poly strings without taking on the weaknesses of each.
- Poly or Co-polyester strings: Not normally made for the average player, Gamma has developed a number of these strings designed to be less harsh on the arm. The idea here is that these will develop more spin with the power needed for many players.
String Sizes
Gamma makes many 16, 17 and even 18 gauge strings. Higher gauges translate to thinner strings generating more spin but may be more subject to breakage.
Colors
If you are trying to match a color string to your racquet or some other preference, you ought to be able to find a color to fit your style. The color has no impact on power, control, spin or playability.
Other Gamma String Features
Many models include proprietary designs to extend durability, increase the time the strings hold their tension, octagon shapes to increase spin, and fibers wrapped to increase endurance and playability. There are also hybrid options available.
