10 Must-Have Items For Your Tennis Bag

What should you put in your tennis bag?
Whether you're a seasoned pro or a newcomer, a well-supplied tennis bag could make or break your next match. Having the right tennis supplies year-round is essential for any tennis player.
Be better prepared for anything that happens on the court with our list of essential items every tennis player should store in their bag.
10 Things To Keep In Your Tennis Bag
Pack the following essentials in your bag whenever you're going to play tennis.
1. Tennis Backpack
Invest in a good tennis bag to carry all of your on and off-court essentials. Tennis backpacks are easy to carry and have enough space to hold all of your supplies and then some. Packs are also easier to carry because they distribute the weight on your shoulders better than a duffle.
2. Water Bottle
Staying hydrated on and off the tennis court is essential no matter the season. Fill up a large bottle with cold water or a sports drink to keep next to you while you play. The best water bottles will help keep your drinks colder for longer.
Tip: Fill up your bottle with extra ice before you hit the courts. If the ice melts, you'll still be left with cold water.
3. Towel
If you're playing tennis this summer, a towel is another must-have for your tennis bag. Throw in a small absorbent microfiber towel to wipe your face between matches or keep your hands dry on the court.
These small towels don't take up much room and always do the trick when you need a quick wipe-down.
4. Hat or Visor
A lightweight cap or visor is vital to shield your eyes from the sun while you play. If you don't like wearing sunglasses on the court, wear a hat to protect your peepers from harmful UV rays.
5. Tennis Racquet
Ok, we know this one is obvious. But what happens if a string breaks on the court? Or your racquet slips out of your hand and gets damaged? Having a spare tennis racquet in your bag is not a bad idea. You can pull it out in case something happens.
Some more serious players are known to come to a game with 3 or more racquets!
6. Sunscreen
There's no shade on the tennis court. So wearing sunscreen is important to protect your skin from the beating sun. Look for a waterproof sunscreen that can withstand hot, sweaty afternoons on the tennis courts. Don't forget a lip balm with SPF too.
Tip: Sprayable sunscreen is less slippery and won't stick to your palms. That way you won't have to run to the bathroom to wash your hands.
7. Extra Clothing
Throw some extra clothes in your tennis bag, depending on the season. In the summer, you'll probably want a change of clothes ready when you leave the court. But during the colder months, a sweatshirt could seriously come in handy.
Many players also pack an extra pair of socks just in case. Some also include comfy slides or flip-flops to change into after a match.
8. First Aid Kit
Even though tennis is far from an extreme sport, keeping a small first aid kit with bandages, topical cream for muscle cramps, and pain relievers like Tylenol or Ibuprofen is a good idea.
This little kit will have you covered in case of blisters, muscle tightness, or aching feet. Don't forget to pack a tennis elbow guard if you need extra support.
9. Spare Grips
Players that like to use overgrips should always keep a spare on hand. Old, dirty, or slippery grips aren't just uncomfortable; they can also throw off your game.
Be sure you have a spare to replace it if needed so you can keep playing. It doesn't take long to replace an old grip, so you'll be back on the court in no time.
10. Notebook & Pen
This one is more optional, but having a pen and paper can be helpful no matter what level player you are. Use the notepad to jot down errors that you want to correct, or if you're a league player, document the names and playing styles of your opponents to get a leg up for next season.
Start packing. No matter what type or level of tennis you play, having a well-equipped tennis bag is convenient on and off the court.
